Derby City Council - Transition to 100% plant-based catering as a form of climate action!
We are asking Derby City Council to support a transition to 100% plant-based catering. This is to align with their climate action plan, which currently does not mention food and diet, despite this area being a leading cause of the global climate crisis.
We also want to see the cafe at Derby City Council switching to 100% plant-based offerings, to widen the impact these choices can make.
Derby City Council declared a climate emergency in May 2019, and in those 6 years have put forward a number of action points in order to work towards net zero in the city, and support global efforts to tackle the climate crisis. There have been no action points around what we consume, however we know that this is a simple but highly impactful step we can all take.
We believe it is the council's responsibility to lead by example in these areas, so we want Derby City Council to follow in the footsteps of other UK councils, including Nottingham City, Lincoln City, Calderdale Borough, Oxfordshire County and others, and implement a plant-based policy within council meetings and events.
A climate emergency was declared six years ago, it is time to be brave and take bold action!
